Taking Care After A Laser Surgery On The Eye
In laser surgery for the eyes, incisions are made and hence it is very necessary to protect them and for this proper attention needs to be paid to them. In the body, one of the organs that are most sensitive is the eye. The process of healing is long term as it is in other kinds of medical procedures that are rather serious, the right kind of medical treatment is necessary. If proper care is not taken then it could lead to another surgery for the eyes. As such, one must be very careful when such a procedure is carried it because post surgery care is crucial.
A few important things will need to be kept in mind if the laser surgery is to be successfully undergone without any unpleasant consequences. The eye surgeon needs to be contacted first of all. As far as care post-surgery is concerned, a plan is made by the eye surgeon for laser surgery for the eyes. Depending upon the instructions provided by the eye surgeon, care needs to be taken. It takes a month's time for the eyes to get healed after the surgery and hence eyes need to be protected well. Go for regular checkups as advised by the eye doctor and whenever inconvenience or pain is experienced, you must contact the eye surgeon.
If proper precautions are taken, the recovery process can be sped up. Eye infection could result if proper care is not taken and so you should seriously consider advice provided by the doctor. After the surgery is over, for the first 48 hours, keep the eyes closed as much as possible. The wound could be opened due to light entering the eye requiring muscular adjustment and movement of the cornea. Since the eyeball needs to remain motionless it is very necessary to keep the eyes closed as far as possible. This is indeed an inconvenient process, doubtless.
The eyes can be opened only if the situation demands so. The next process of healing gets going in the next 48 hours which is a period of vital importance for the patient. If possible, eye protection needs to be worn. Wound caused in the laser surgery could get reopened due to rubbing of the eyes which is a habit at times and also due to the sunlight and wind as well. While sleeping an eye mask can be worn for example or while taking a bath a pair of goggles that fits you can also be worn.
Makeup related to the eyes must be avoided at any cost and if possible also completely avoid facial makeup completely. Going outdoors must also be avoided and in case one is without a choice then prevent ultraviolet rays from reaching the eyes. It is a good idea to wear a good pair of sunglasses that cuts out much of the sunlight. Medication provided by the doctor like eye drops and other prescription medicines should be religiously used as per the orders of the doctor. If you find the medication is not effective enough, immediately contact the doctor and he may change the prescription medicine for you if necessary.
